Beneficial management of biomass combustion ashes

چکیده

Use of biomass for energy production is increasing, so management the resultant ash important. This review compares current and future production, chemical composition, reuse options from common feedstocks (agricultural residues, crops, woody biomass, forest recovered wood, paper sludge, sewage sludge municipal solid waste). Global ~170 Mt/yr, but could increase to ~1000 Mt/yr if all available were exploited. Current dominated wood waste derived ashes, there capacity greatly use agricultural residues. Combustion virgin in modern furnaces can produce with negligible persistent organic pollutants low contaminant metals concentrations, application land possible. Agricultural residue ashes contain abundant potassium useful phosphate, potentially be used as fertiliser. Forestry are rich CaO, slightly higher levels may restrict their forestry soils. Recovery these cementitious materials have also been demonstrated. Biomass containing more metals. However, bottom routinely a construction aggregate prescribed applications. Paper suitable restricted soil conditioner possibly secondary pozzolan. controlled disposal required incineration ash. As tend partition flue gases, fly air-pollution control residues likely require disposal.

Environmental and health aspects of coal and biomass co-combustion ashes

Co-combustion is an important aspect of power generation from coal in the Netherlands and becomes increasingly important in the rest of Europe as well. To study these aspects several ashes have been sampled for many years under different firing conditions in test series, mostly at power plants. These ashes were analyzed and its properties assessed. Occupational health aspects discussed in this ...

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Other Organic Compounds in Ashes from Biomass Combustion

Power generation from biomass is a substantial source of ashes, the extent of which depends on the type of biomass fuel and technology of combustion being used. The current study focuses on comparison of ashes with a special emphasis on hazardous organic compounds, particularly the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) fraction, present in ash. The reason is that ashes from combustion of wood...

Combustion properties of biomass

Properties of biomass relevant to combustion are briefly reviewed. The compositions of biomass among fuel types are variable, especially with respect to inorganic constituents important to the critical problems of fouling and slagging. Alkali and alkaline earth metals, in combination with other fuel elements such as silica and sulfur, and facilitated by the presence of chlorine, are responsible...
